Western North Carolina is a great place for camping and has many options ranging from primitive camping to luxury glamping. There are multiple places to camp or park your RV or camper very close to Asheville. Smaller area towns like Marshall, NC and Hot Springs, NC also have great camping and RV options. The following are some of our favorite spots, just be sure to reserve early.
Hot Springs Campground and Resort - Hot Springs, NC
The Hot Springs Campground is located along the banks of the French Broad River, a short stroll from the Hot Springs Spa and Natural Mineral Baths. This facility is a favorite stopping point for travelers of all types from hikers coming off the Appalachian Trail to vacationers and health seekers. The campground includes primitive sites, electric sites, group camping sites, RV sites with full hookups, pull-through RV sites, and multiple cabins.
Mama Gertie’s Hideaway Campground - Swannanoa, NC
If you’re wanting to pull up your RV or pitch a tent closer to Asheville, Mama Gertie’s is a great option. Mama Gerties offers full hook-up RV sites for motor homes, trailers, 5th wheels and sites for pop-ups and tent camping along with rental cabins. Mama Gertie’s is conveniently located just 15 minutes east of Asheville and 10 minutes west of Black Mountain.
Bear Creek RV Park - Asheville, NC
Bear Creek RV Park and Campground is conveniently located right off the I-40, I-26, and I-240 highways less than 10 minutes to downtown Asheville and 5 minutes to West Asheville. They offer large, level paved lots with full 30 and 50 amp hookups including 25 pull-throughs (25×60), big rig sites, and 65 back-ins (25×50). Bear Creek is most suitable for RV campers rather than tent campers.
Rocky Bluff Campground - Hot Springs, NC
Rocky Bluff Campground is the perfect mountain getaway for visitors who seek quiet and solitude amid nature’s picturesque surroundings. Tucked away off NC 209 near Hot Springs, the campground is one of the best-kept secrets in the national forests in North Carolina. Rocky Bluff campsites are all non-electric and more suitable for tent campers. This campground is also one of the more affordable with rates as low as $15 per night.
